It is not about simply surviving, but living to your FULL potential.

There is no “one size fits all” in life, and sports is the field where this is clearly manifested. But what is seen and lived in sports, can be seen and applied in everyday life too. Sports is not all play and for the conscious mind, everything that one encounters in the field of play can be then drawn to life lessons, much like the role of myth in ancient cultures.

It is no secret that sports have become a vehicle of financial transaction, a business and a very lucrative one for millions of people. I am not judging this, it is what it is.
What has been put aside though is the constructive-pedagogical benefits this whole process has. The benefits are never ending; from character building to social bonds, from personal entertainment to a proven psychotherapeutical tool, from physical health to mental greatness and many more. These aspects are not being developed in current practice or at least very few do it.

The percentage of athletes that will end up making a living out of their sport is very low. The percentage of those who will make fortunes are even lower. There is something though that EVERYONE who has ever been involved in sports can earn in a more or less equal portion; the shot to personal greatness.
The more or less consists of the level of consciousness one puts into the labour, as with any kind of work in any field.
Personal greatness has nothing to do with being rich and famous, champion, record-holder, endorsement deals, agents or things of that kind. At the end of the day, it has nothing to do with being an athlete, it is just a personal mentality. It is relevant in this context because it can be developed through sports even if it is not present at the beginning.

Personal Greatness is that state of being with which you go to bed every night, knowing you did your best to be better today and look forward to tomorrow in order to be even better

That can be achieved when you are present in the moment.
When you are active.
When you direct everything you do towards understanding yourself as the end goal.

It is not something selfish, it is just the way of the purposeful being. The fact you do what you do(from training to a job) should be a free choice, not something that lacks freedom but rather enforcing it. The sacrifices one makes should be without regrets. We all give something in our process, may it be time, money, feelings, whatever. That which we decide to give, should be given without looking back. It is a choice we must be willing to make and stick to it.

When you decide you will jump, do not look down.

A marathon runner knows that the first half of the marathon is the difficult part, after they are in the rhythm, it goes smooth. But they know they are not out there to just make a stroll, a Sunday walk, they are out there pushing themselves to the limit to achieve greatness. And it is exactly that, nothing less.
Everything we do for a given time, becomes our habit. Habits are not enough.
We all have the habit of getting out of bed in the morning and going to bed at night, but what we have done in between is what counts. There is no easy sleep at night if you let the day go by, knowing you haven’t done the best you could have done.
Same with everything.

Food. Eat the right foods in the right amounts, healthy, so you don’t put junk in your machine and the mind can operate properly. Eat what keeps you healthy.
Read. As the body needs training, so does the mind. Read every day, learn new things, explore, learn a new language, all of this will train the brain to be a great carrier of consciousness. Then the world around will change and you will see things under a new light, brighter and more oriented to positive aspects of reality.

Breathe. We learn in sports the importance of it, for example before a free throw in basketball you will see players taking a deep breath and exhaling. It relaxes you, it brings oxygen to your tissues. You need that. Not only under physical performance. Ancient Indian tradition says that we are born with a predetermined number of breaths for our lifetime, and how we use them is our choice, some breathe quickly, other calmly. Just saying.

Break the bad habits and the unhealthy ones. No need to point out which those are. Just imagine all the energy and time you put into them, how could it be of use when put into something positive for you and others.

Choose not to survive.
Choose to fully LIVE.
Choose to be better.

Then you will leave a mark.
Then everything will make sense.
Then greatness will be achieved and you will be above as mere survival.
It is something worth living for.
